Leadership
At Continental Alloys & Services, we believe leadership is more than a title on a business card. It's how we work every day.
Continental's roots as a business began with an ability to forge trust-based relationships and connections. The company owes its continued growth and global success to a four-decade record of proven ability to deliver on its promises: honesty, reliability, premium-quality materials, logistical excellence and a deep understanding of customers' requirements.
Continental's experienced department heads, managers and executives come from a globe-spanning variety of cultures and professional backgrounds. But they share a commitment to quality and an approachable leadership style that sets the tone for Continental's employees around the world.
They share a value system of integrity, openness and trust that puts people and service first.
Leadership. It's not about what we say — it's what we do.

Starting in Houston, TX back in 1983, Randy has worked in Accounting, Operations, Sales, and various levels of management throughout his career and throughout the country. “Continental Alloys & Services has a very strong “Brand” in the global Market place for specialty metal products and extremely talented employees that go out of their way to take care of their customer’s needs on a daily basis”.
Jim Gibb
Jim has been involved in the oil and gas industry since 1975. After an engineering apprenticeship, he attended Dundee Technical College. From 1993 to 1999, Jim was in charge of Liverpool-based Asco Engineering. When the opportunity arose, he welcomed the chance to join Continental. The company's solid customer base and great relationships were a good fit for his capabilities. Continental’s U.K. operations are busy serving the Middle East and South America, as well as the North Sea. Growth continues, particularly in northeast Scotland, a hub of technology and expertise in the global oil and gas sector.
“The keys to our success are strong customer relationships, an excellent reputation, skilled, knowledgeable and motivated people and excellent facilities. We also invest regularly in new equipment.”
Gerry Mumford
When Gerry started with Continental in 1998, he was just the fourth employee of the newly opened Canadian business unit. Gerry has been an integral part of growing the business in Canada from a four-man team to a 50-person operation, with a facility on the outskirts of Calgary and a downtown office in the hub of the Canadian oil and gas market.
“I am continually amazed at the growth this industry has had in Western Canada. From the first oilfields outside of Edmonton to the huge reserves in the oil sands of today, the oil and gas industry has required a diverse infrastructure of service and supply businesses. With new technologies being introduced every year, there is a continual demand for quality steel that can meet the specifications of this industry. I have always enjoyed adapting to the changes that our clients require.”
Rob Olinyk
Rob joined Continental Alloys Middle East in September of 2010. Eight of his 13 years in the oil and gas industry have been spent in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Rob’s experience in the Middle East and North Africa markets has been essential for Continental since it opened its Dubai operations in October 2009.
“As the region continues to grow and attract major oil and gas services companies, it is important for Continental Alloys Middle East to support this growth and serve these clients with our global supply chain experience. Our operation in Dubai has many great opportunities for growth and expansion, while we continue to provide our customers with our first-class service and the quality and supply they have come to expect.
Kris Toh
Kris’s background is in precision machining, where he has more than 20 years’ experience in roles from tradesman to senior management, serving local and international markets in the military and aerospace sectors. He moved to the oil and gas industry in 2003, in plant management for an American multinational corporation. There, Kris took on a number of new challenges as a major regional and international service provider. In 2007, he joined the Continental family, where his extensive knowledge and experience helps the company provide superior service to Continental’s clients in the Asian market.
“I’ve been on both sides of the playing field, as the customer and the service provider, in a growing region. I’m excited to provide an Asian perspective to Continental’s global growth.”
History
Continental's expertise and capacity span the globe, but our people continue to deliver trustworthy service the way they have for four decades.
In the mid-1970s, North America was moving to reduce its dependence on imported oil. Paul Benditz, an Ohio-born salesman, had been transferred to Texas by his company in 1970. Paul saw the need for a reliable, service-oriented supplier of high-quality steel to support the growth of the domestic oil and gas industry.
He started Continental Casing in 1976, selling OCTG out of a small office close to downtown Houston. At the beginning, Paul didn't have the money to buy inventory. Instead, he used his people skills to build trusting relationships with suppliers. This relationship-building set the tone for how Continental does business today.
Continental soon moved to larger headquarters. After Paul's sons Dan and Dale joined the company in the mid-1980s, it diversified into mechanical tubing and solid bar product lines, and added manufacturing capabilities.
The company thrived even when the energy industry did not. Through mergers, partnerships and expansion, Continental reached out into Canada, Mexico, the U.K., Malaysia, Singapore and Dubai.
Today, Continental Alloys & Services is a subsidiary of Reliance Steel & Aluminum Co., a Fortune 500 company with access to a vast network of the world’s best steel resources. Our journey has taken us from Texas to the world, but hasn’t changed our philosophy. We are a family-oriented team of uncompromising professionals who take pride in reliability, quality, service and value, and in creating a great workplace for our employees.
